Bio.

Jessica “Seeka” Holtby is a Jamaican-Canadian singer/songwriter, university lecturer of French, and mother of two little boys. Seeka has been involved in the western Canadian music scene for over 15 years, performing in English and French. In 2021, she was nominated for Children’s Artist of the Year for her debut children’s album, “Seriously Singable,” at the Western Canadian Music Awards.

Seeka's children's musical act, “Seeka Sings,” fosters diversity and early education through a blend of styles, including folk, jazz, Afro-Caribbean, and other genres. Her latest project is a lively, educational, French-English collaboration with JUNO-nominated musician Will Stroet of Will’s Jams. Their debut album, “Will et Seeka: Amis avec tout le monde,” will be released this October, and is available as a virtual musical program for teachers and schools through Arts IQ at artsiq.ca/willetseeka. Will et Seeka will be premiering their bilingual live shows at Festival du Bois and the Vancouver International Children’s Festival in spring 2023. Seeka Sings” is a cheerful, interactive experience that explores culture, genre, rhythm, and the English and French languages. Seeka’s songs are infused with jazz, folk, Afro-Caribbean sounds, and other vibes, and are designed to teach a variety of concepts related to language and motor skills, social-emotional learning, and diversity.

With her band of skilled musicians from various backgrounds, Seeka draws the audience into the show through actions, call and response, storytelling, and teaching moments. Song topics include positive affirmations, traditions, food, times of day, grammar, movement, self-love, and anti-racism.
